#WorkoutWednesday: Omnida Hot Yoga

working girl london gets sweaty at omnida
Omnida is a new fitness and yoga studio in North London, aiming to make fitness accessible and fun for everyone. They invited a few bloggers to come and get sweaty with them at a hot yoga class and I, of course, jumped at the chance!

The team behind Omnida have worked tirelessly for the last year or so to build a beautiful studio complete with one hot fitness studio and one larger dance studio. The programme of classes ranges from Bollywood Blast fitness to Pilates, and all classes are suitable for beginners and gym bunnies alike. There is also a range of classes specifically for children. Here’s my verdict on the Hot Yoga class taught by Nicola.

1. Barely broke a sweat
2. Too out of breath to sing along
3. In the zone!
4. Couldn’t move the next day

This sweaty class scores a 2! The class moves at a nice pace – it is dynamic but not so much that you feel rushed and don’t fulfill each posture. The room is warm rather than hot, and it’s not humid like in bikram yoga classes. All of this makes for a class which is as challenging as you want to make it.

There are variations for most postures to increase difficulty and, equally, you can choose to rest at any point if you need to. As the class was quite small, Nicola was able to easily correct any of our poses and make adjustments throughout, so we never felt lost. Overall, the class was more pleasant than difficult but you can definitely feel the stretches the next day!

Fun Factor:
1. I would rather be in bed
2. Glad I tried it once
3. Such fun!
4. Sign me up now

A perfect 3 – Omnida is a nice, modern, clean studio and has a relaxed atmosphere. The owners are happy to have a chat with you between classes and there’s a really friendly vibe. Because the yoga studio is quite small, there were only 6 of us in the class. This made a nice change from other studios where you’re packed in like sardines, trying to ignore the fact that the guy next to you is dripping sweat onto your mat during half moon pose…

The Fine Print

Omnida is a 2 minute walk from Turnpike Lane station. They have an extensive timetable and a range of pricing options for different types of classes. A Hot Fitness class will cost you £12 to drop in, or you can buy a bundle of 6 for £65 or 10 for £100. This may sound a bit pricey but is actually very reasonable for hot yoga, especially as it gains popularity across London!

Final Word

Omnida is a friendly independent studio with a good range of classes. It’s not so far out that it has to only be for locals and it’s not so central that prices are extortionate. It is definitely worth traveling to from around London – I will be going back to try one of the dance classes for sure! The wonderful team gave all of us bloggers a goodie bag featuring treats from Green People, Rude Health, Punch Foods, Teapigs and Faith in Nature. They are all pretty awesome brands, as focused on being good to the planet as they are on making good products, so do check them out.
